Rutgers Names Lacrosse Captains for 2012

Seniors Rebecca Alley (Tewksbury, N.J.) and Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) have been named team captains of Rutgers , head coach Laura Brand-Sias announced Monday. The two leaders were chosen after a team vote.



"The team made great leadership choices in Bec and Ali," said Brand-Sias. "They have dedicated themselves to the academic and athletic values of this program and they truly lead by example. I have been extremely proud of the entire senior class and their leadership throughout the fall semester, and I know that will continue to grow along with the guidance of these two captains."

Alley, who started all 16 games at defense last season, was named to the 2011 IWLCA All-Region Team. The senior led the team with 22 caused turnovers, adding 19 ground balls and 22 draw controls. In the classroom, Alley was selected to the 2011 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

Steinberg, also named to the 2011 IWLCA All-Region Team, started all 16 games in the midfield last season. She led the Scarlet Knights and ranked fourth in the Big East with 37 draw controls. The Suffern, N.Y. native also ranked second on the squad with 35 points, 28 goals and 77 shots.
