Appelt and Teeters Named Team Captains


TOWSON, Md. - Coach Sonia LaMonica announced that senior attacker Sarah Appelt and senior goalkeeper Mary Teeters have been named as the captains of the Towson University women's lacrosse team for the 2012 season.
"The role of a captain is no easy task," said LaMonica. "It comes with heavy responsibility and the willingness to lead by example at all times.           
"I am excited to announce Mary and Sarah as our 2012 team captains, both of whom are well respected amongst their peers and who are ready to fulfill these roles," added LaMonica. "I am confident that they will hold themselves and their teammates to very high standards."
Appelt appeared in all 18 games last season and made 17 starts. She scored 18 goals and led the Tigers with 22 assists. For her career, Appelt has appeared in 40 games and scored 22 goals with 32 assists. She scored a career-high three goals against Hofstra last year and recorded three assists three times.
Teeters, earned First Team All-CAA honors last season. She appeared in 18 games for the Tigers and posted a career-best 9.23 goals against average. Teeters had 10 or more saves nine times last season. A three-year starter for the Tigers, she has a 9.47 career goals against average and a career .491 save percentage.
Appelt, Teeters and the Tigers begin their 2012 campaign on Feb. 21 when they host Oregon at 1 p.m. in Johnny Unitas® stadium.
