Loras College (IA) to Add D3 Women's Lacrosse

The Loras College Department of Athletics and Athletic Director Bob Quinn are pleased to announce plans to add women's lacrosse as the 22ndsport at Loras College and first sport to be added since women's soccer in 1995.

Initial plans include the immediate search for the program's first head coach, a non-traditional season in the fall of 2012, and a traditional schedule in the spring of 2013 as an independent program.

"This is a step that Loras College is excited to take and very much looking forward to," Quinn said Monday.

"At a time when many colleges and universities are considering cutting programs, we've decided to add one. Across the board, Loras is constantly looking to enhance the student-athlete experience, and by adding lacrosse we believe we are doing just that."

Loras College will proudly sponsor 22 intercollegiate sports after the addition of women's lacrosse, which was approved by Loras College's Board of Regents last week. The college also offers a wide range of intramural opportunities as well as the judo club, hockey club, ultimate club, and cheerleading.
