Flowers, Blazer Tabbed 2012 Lacrosse Captains

 Head coach Stephy Samaras Mantziaras announced the naming of All Conference selections Mary Flowers and Taylor Blazer as captains to the 2012 lacrosse squad.
"We are so excited to have Mary and Taylor leading our team this spring," said Mantziaras. "Both want to win, know what it takes to win and have the determination to instill that knowledge and skill in our team. They have set the bar high for a new era in Richmond Lacrosse."
Flowers is a two-time Midfielder of the Year and was a captain of last year's squad. Flowers led the nation and league in ground balls per game (4.14) and also was tops in the A-10 in points (65) and draw controls (3.79). The two-time Player of the Week also ranked third in the conference in goals per game (2.64) and assists per game (1.64). Flowers is also a two-time SynapsesSports.com All-American third team honoree.
Blazer is named as co-captain after a stellar freshman campaign. The Berlin, Md. native started every game for the Spiders this season and led the team in caused turnovers (35) and was 11th in the nation in caused turnovers (1.88) per game. Blazer also finished second in ground balls (49) and third in draw controls (35). Both Blazer and Flowers were All Conference first team selections. The Spiders open their 2012 slate at home against Duke Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.
