Lacrosse Gives Back to Community

An emphasis for the George Mason lacrosse team, the Patriots continue to participate in several community service events. Listed below are events the team took part in during the fall. Last season, Mason was awarded with the IWLCA Team Community Awareness Award for their hard work and dedication in the community.

October Events:
Pink Hair for Hope
For the second consecutive year, the George Mason Women's lacrosse team showed their support for those who are fighting breast cancer in a fun and special way.  Team members went to participating local salons and had a lock of SO.CAP's signature pink hair extension added to their own locks for a $10 donation. The proceeds of this campaign went to both the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society's Making Strides against Breast Cancer.

ALS Walk
On Sunday October 16th, the team participated in the Washington D.C. Walk to Defeat ALS.  Coaches and players took a bus into DC, where they participated in the walk circling the National Monument. Self-named Arthur's Entourage, in memory of Arthur Ellisen, a father of one of our teammates, the team exceeded their goal to raise $2,250, donating an amazing total of $4,343.

Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer- George Mason Women's Lacrosse Tournament
The Mason Lacrosse team held a fall ball tournament for breast cancer in October to show their support for breast cancer. The team donned pink hair extensions, pink jerseys and pink ribbons for attendees with the proceeds going towards breast cancer research.

Witch Hunt
On Halloween, members of the team went to the Patriots Men's Basketball Exhibition Game vs. Lycoming to pass out candy and participate in crafts with the kids in attendance. From face-painting to making puppets to handing out sweets, the team made sure to give the children of our dedicated athletic supporters a Halloween that they wouldn't forget.

Canned Food Drive
The team collected food items for the Prince William ACTS Food Pantry, which had to close temporarily.  Therefore, the team, along with Mason LEADScholars, stepped in to help and collected items needed and donated them to the Prince William ACTS Food Pantry.

November Events:
Best Buddies Event
On Friday, November 11th, the entire team met some of the members of the GMU Best Buddies Program to attend the men's basketball season-opening game in the Patriot Center. The team interacted with the members during the overtime win and post-game.

CAA Blood Drive
The lacrosse team volunteered their time for the annual CAA Blood Drive held on November 14 on the campus. During the event, the team helped pass out t-shirts, bobble heads and coupons for all the people who donated.  The team was also instrumental in promoting the event around campus and assisting the in rest area after donators finished.
