Four Tar Heels Earn All-America Honors From Face-Off Yearbook


Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players have earned 2012 preseason All-America honors from the Inside Lacrosse< Face-Off Yearbook, the publication announced today.
Senior midfielder Laura Zimmerman grabbed first-team honors, senior attacker Becky Lynch and junior midfielder Kara Cannizzaro were on the second team and sophomore defender Sloane Serpe was on the third team.
Maryland led the nation with four first-team All-Americas. Northwestern has the most overall All-Americas with five. Carolina and Duke both had four total All-Americas.
This season, for the first time ever, the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook includes a women's section. The inaugural Face-Off Yearbook Division I women's preview includes IL's preseason top 20, preseason All-Americans, 10 intriguing questions for 2012, conference outlooks and more.
Earlier this week, the Face-Off Yearbook picked UNC fourth in its preseason top 20 poll, trailing No. 1 Northwestern, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 Florida. Duke rounded out the top five at No. 5. Other 2012 UNC opponents in the poll include No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Penn, No. 8 Virginia, No. 10 Boston College, No. 12 Georgetown and No. 15 Albany.

Carolina will open its 2012 season on Feb. 11 against Florida at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill.
